Meta-Analysis of the Correlation Effects between Parental Psychological Control and Psycho-Social Adjustment in School Aged Children

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze comprehensively between psychological control and psycho-social adjustment in school aged children by means of meta-analysis. A total of 62 research studies were sampled. From these studies, 1,001 effect sizes were correlated. CAM 2.0 and Excel 2013 were used to code and analyze the data. The results were as follows; first, a total effect size between parental psychological control and psycho-social adjustment in school aged children was .289. It was a mid-range effect size. Second, on the correlation effect size between parental psychological control and psychological adjustment in school aged children, maladaptive perfectionism was observed to be higher than the others. On the correlation effect size between parental psychological control and social adjustment in school aged children, school adjustment was higher than the others. To sum up, parental psychological control appears to be related to various aspects of psychological and social maladjustment amongst school aged children. This suggests that parental psychological control is a factor that should be considered important for intervention of child maladjustment. This study concludes with a discussion of the limitation of the current study as well as implications for further work in this field.
